SUVs and MPVs help boost GM's sales

During the first half this year, General Motors and its joint venture in China sold 1.719 million vehicles, up 4.4 percent year-on-year. The growth benefited from its lineup of sports utility vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles.

During the first half of the year, SUV sales under GM surged by 82.7 percent year-on-year, to 148,081 units. Among them, Buick Envision sold 57,413 units, becoming the top seller.

The MPVs saw sales grow by 31.4 percent year-on-year, to hit 505,519 units. In the luxury segment, 39,444 Cadillacs were sold, up 14 percent year-on-year.
