Chili Peppers, Aguilera, Harrison seeing stars in '08

Los Angeles - Visitors to Los Angeles next year will finally have the opportunity to walk all over the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Meaning, the L.A.-rooted rock band will be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008, along with 18 other artists who have been tapped to receive stars on the landmark stretch of Hollywood Boulevard that's as famous for what's inscribed in the cement as it is for the A-listers who've trod along the sidewalk.

There's not much of a hierarchy as far as the order in which stars get doled out, with people in show business for only 10 years (or less) sometimes hurdling over their more veteran peers, such as Barbara Walters, who received her own star just last week.

The names on tap for 2008 reflect the randomness, although all of the artists have unquestionably made their mark as far as their respective trades are concerned.

George Harrison, the quiet Beatle who passed away in 2001, will finally get his due in the Walk of Fame's recording category, as will country duo Brooks & Dunn, pop chanteuse Christina Aguilera and Latin crossover star Ricky Martin.

Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Tim Robbins and past nominee Angela Bassett are being recognized for their work on the big screen, as are Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee, the collective Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz and the Westmores of Hollywood, a family of makeup artists that has worked in the business since 1917, when patriarch George Westmore established the town's first makeup department.

Meanwhile, actress Susan St. James (Kate & Allie, McMillan and Wife), CBS News commentator Bill Geist, Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel, longtime The Young and the Restless star Kate Linder, WWE mastermind Vince McMahon and Brady Bunch creator Sherwood Schwartz will receive stars for their small-screen efforts.

Wicked composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz is being inducted for theater.

Also being honored posthumously, along with Harrison, is actor Brian Keith, who might be best known for playing the dad in the original The Parent Trap but who has been singled out by the Walk of Fame for his television work.

The ceremonies honoring these recipients will take place over the next five years. (Hey, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may have ratified the list on June 8, but it takes awhile to break ground on any major thoroughfare.)
