Obsessed fan charged with stalking Miley Cyrus
LOS ANGELES - Police have charged a 53-year-old man with trying to stalk teenage star Miley Cyrus after he was arrested a month ago for attempting to reach the actress on a movie set, police in Georgia said on Wednesday.
Mark McLeod, who has told police he is secretly engaged to 16-year-old Cyrus, was charged with attempting to stalk the star on the set of her latest Disney film, "The Last Song," on Tybee Island, near Savannah, Georgia.
Cyrus has shot fame in the past few years for playing Hannah Montana in the hit Disney series about a schoolgirl with a secret life as a pop star.
Tybee Island Police Chief Jim Price told local reporters that McLeod, of Appling, Georgia, was arrested after Walt Disney Pictures security officers reported he was on beachside movie set despite a police warning in June to stay away.
In June, McLeod was arrested by Tybee Island Police on charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction when he tried to breach a security perimeter around the movie set, the New York Daily News reported.
But he was released after a day in custody because of jail overcrowding, a move that was criticized by local media and lawmakers.
In March this year, the New York Daily news shot video of McLeod waiting at a book-signing appearance by Cyrus in Manhattan when he said he was her No. 1 fan.
The newspaper said McLeod will be charged with criminal attempted stalking. No one from the Tybee Island police was available for comment.
