Kristen Stewart wins early at MTV Movie Awards
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – "Twilight" is already eclipsing the competition at the MTV Movie Awards.
Kristen Stewart won the first golden popcorn trophy handed out at the fan-favorite MTV award show, hosted by "Parks and Recreation" funnyman Aziz Ansari. Stewart was honored for best female performance for her role as Bella Swan in "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" at Sunday's over-the-top and often-bleeped ceremony at the Gibson Amphitheatre.
"I guess 'Twilight' is really awesome, and I agree," said a fidgety Stewart. "Woo!"
Tom Cruise launched the ceremony as his "Tropic Thunder" character Les Grossman, a profanity-spewing Hollywood producer. In the opening bit, Grossman cast "Twilight" stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson as mustached cops, used Michael Cera as a human bookend and yelled at "The Karate Kid" star Jaden Smith as father Will Smith looked on.
Fans voted online for winners in such categories as best kiss, villain, "WTF moment" and comedic performance. New categories introduced this year are global superstar and scariest moment. Other early winners included "Obsessed" co-stars Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter for best fight and "Up in the Air" co-star Anna Kendrick for breakout star.
"This is the coolest moment ever," Kendrick said. "This is going on my coffee table."
All eyes will be on Sandra Bullock when she accepts the MTV Generation Award in her first live televised appearance since she split with unfaithful husband Jesse James earlier this year. The 45-year-old actress has kept a low profile since James' affair became public after she won the best actress Oscar for her role in "The Blind Side" on March 7.
Bullock made a surprise appearance Saturday night at Spike TV's "Guys Choice" event in Culver City, Calif., but that show won't be broadcast until June 20. She received a standing ovation when she accepted the "Troops Choice" Award for Entertainer of The Year, from presenter Robert Downey, Jr. The award was voted on by members of the military.
