Queen Elizabeth delighted by William's engagement
Queen Elizabeth gave Prince William's engagement her blessing with a kiss.
The British monarch's grandson - who announced his engagement to long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton on Tuesday (16.11.10) - made a special trip to see his grandmother at her Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle, to speak to her about his intention to marry.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "It was emotional. The queen was absolutely delighted for William and for Kate, who she is very fond of.
"Their talk ended with an affectionate kiss on the cheek between the queen and Wills."
Meanwhile, speculation has mounted that William and his fiancee are hoping to hold their wedding at Westminster Abbey in London - where the queen married Prince Philip and the funeral of William's mother, Princess Diana, was held in 1997 - after Kate was spotted emerging from a private tour yesterday (17.11.10).
The future princess waited until the historic landmark had closed for the day so she could soak up the atmosphere.
However a source at St James' palace said the pair have not made a final decision on the wedding venue.
The insider said: "Kate and William want more time to consider the options with their family members."
Although they have received the queen's blessing on their engagement, Kate and William have yet to announce a date for their ceremony.
However, close pal Tom Bradby said yesterday (17.11.10): "I think they want to have it in March."
