No decision to be made on Lindsay Lohan case this week

No official decision on Lindsay Lohan's alleged jewellery theft case is to be made this week.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's (DA) Office - which was handed the case by the Los Angeles Police Department yesterday (02.02.11) - has confirmed the DA will not be coming to a decision on whether or not to prosecute the 24-year-old star for allegedly stealing a "high-end necklace" before the weekend.

According to gossip website TMZ, the DA will either file a felony grand theft charge - which could see the 'Machete' actress return to prison for a third time - a lower misdemeanor grand theft charge or wipe the charges altogether.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives initially obtained a warrant to search the troubled star's Venice Beach home on Tuesday (01.02.11) after store owners became concerned about the whereabouts of the necklace, which is believed to be worth $2,500.

However, Lindsay - who completed 14 days of a 90-day jail sentence in July 2010 after breaking the terms of probation for her 2007 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI) - has reportedly claimed she borrowed the necklace with the owner of jewellery store Kamofie & Company's consent.

Her father Michael Lohan explained: "This has been a very stressful time, none of us need this added stress to our lives. I'm not going to let people continue to distort things: Lindsay never stole a necklace."

The 'Mean Girls' actress was released from a three-month court-ordered rehab stay in early January - her fifth visit to a treatment facility - and is currently on probation until her next court hearing on February 24.
