Naomi Campbell has called for peace in the Middle East.

The supermodel toured Palestinian city Bethlehem where she lit candles in the Church of the Nativity, accompanied by a security team.

Naomi - who was in the area believed to be Jesus' birthplace for her 42nd birthday - said she hoped for an end to bloodshed in the region.

She told a local television station: "As much traveling as I've done, I've never come here. I'm happy to be here. Weapons and war, greed and oil ... I hope it all stops. I care about health, about good vibrations, not destruction."

Naomi celebrated her birthday at the nearby Casa Nova Palace Restaurant.

Her group ate a traditional Palestinian meal of lamb and rice inside the restaurant, according to an employee.

She requested anonymity because Palestinian officials threatened to punish people speaking to reporters.

The fashion icon also visited the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem, the holiest place where Jews can pray, a retaining wall of the compound where the Jewish biblical temples stood 2000 years ago.

Her visit sparked rumours that she was to marry her billionaire boyfriend Vladislav Doronin, 50, after she left her hotel in a white dress.
