Kung fu star Jackie Chan has been named as the spokesman for the forthcoming 3rd Xi'an Silk Road International Film Festival, the organizers said on Wednesday.

One of China's top movie events, the annual festival is jointly organized by the country's top movie regulator and the governments of the Shaanxi and Fujian provinces.

It takes place alternately in the two provinces respectively.

This year's event will be in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province, from Sept 19 to 23.

The festival, named after the ancient route connecting Asia and Europe, highlights the cultural diversity of cinema along the route.

Chan has shown a strong interest in the route and its history. In his 2015 action epic Dragon Blade, which is based on a legend about a battle between Chinese and Roman armies along the route, Chan stars a Chinese warrior who unites ethnic groups.
