Mexico's Federal Preventive Police agents seized 2.25 million U.S. dollars in Mexico City's International Airport, the federal Public Security Secretariat (SSP) said on Thursday.

The SSP said in a statement that police agents at the airport found the money hidden in four double-bottom suitcases. Three men and one woman were arrested.

The SSP explained that the federal agents detected some irregularities in the suitcases when their owners, who were taking a commercial flight to Guadalajara, Western Mexico, put the suitcases through an X-ray machine.

Police agents discovered the double-bottom suitcases which contained 75 packs of 100-dollar bills.

The arrested people were named as Jose Guillermo Pasos Bravo, 50, Liliana Lili Mendoza, 30, Samuel Garcia Lechuga, 28, and Hugo Enrique Canales Feria, 20.
