Legal education to target judicial officials: top legislator (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-04-30 09:26
China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has set goals for the country's legal
education over the next five years, targeting police, prosecutors, judges and
prison guards.
"Officials, especially leaders within the judicial system are the most
important recipients of our legal education in the coming five years," said Wu,
chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), on
Saturday.
At the closing session of the 21st session of the Standing Committee of the
National People's Congress (NPC), Wu said only when judicial officials use the
principles of law and order can the public be motivated to study and better obey
the country's laws.
"The behavior and conducted of these officials can make the best textbook of
legal education," he said.
Wu said judicial officials should pay the most attention in learning the laws
that affect the direct interests of the people.
He said media and government officials should raise the awareness of the
public with laws close to their interests and teach them how to solve problems
and settle disputes through legal means.
