Chinese police organs cracked a total of 4,911 child kidnapping cases from 2000 to 2005, rescuing nearly 10,000 children, according to a report from the Women and Children Work Committee of the State Council.

The office of the Women and Children Work Committee made a report on the implementation of the China Child Development Outline (2001 to 2010) on International Children's Day, which falls on Thursday.

According to the committee, government departments in China have all taken stringent measures to safeguard children's legitimate rights in recent years.

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Civil Affairs have jointly clamped down on infringement of child rights, such as forcing handicapped children to beg in the streets.

Moreover, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and Ministry of Justice have intensified efforts to fight illegal employment of child laborers. And the Ministry of Civil Affairs has offered economic assistant to child vagrants.
