Crime stories, personal anecdotes and action snaps have propelled "China's first police blog" firmly into the mainstream, state media reported on Friday.

The blog, posted by police in China's northern Hebei province, has generated 860,000 hits and leapt into the top 500 most popular blogs on major Chinese web portal, sina.com.cn, the Beijing Youth Daily newspaper said.

"Apart from Jackie Chan movies, we also have our own police stories, and they're absolutely real!" the paper quoted Su Zhengjun, a police official from Hebei's Public Security Bureau, as saying.

Featuring a blue homepage with a golden police insignia, the site has links marked "police action", "police perspective" and images of police training in khaki combat gear and acting in war movies.

The story of Zhang Li, a young police woman named ambassador of the police department, drew a chorus of approval from web surfers -- particularly male ones.

"How fortunate criminals will be to be caught by such a beautiful girl... That would be worth a few years in prison," said one commentator.
