Shanghai police arrested a man yesterday on charges he killed his wife after he became jealous watching her dance with another man.

Gu Weiwei, 36, will face a charge of manslaughter by Pudong Zhangjiang Area Prosecutors' Office.

On the night of June 26, Gu and his wife surnamed Lin had dinner with Zhang Bing, a good friend of Gu. After dinner, they got in Zhang's car to go to a nightclub for dancing, prosecutors said.

Because Gu wasn't good at dancing, Lin danced with Zhang. Sitting aside, Gu felt extremely jealous seeing that his wife was dancing intimately with his good friend, according to prosecutors.

"She never danced so warmly with me," he told prosecutors.

Gu allegedly dragged his wife from the nightclub. Lin asked him what happened while the husband scolded her for acting flirtatiously. The couple had a big argument that day for this, prosecutors said.

They became reconciled the next day. Gu left his keys in Zhang's car and the couple went to Zhang's home to get them.

Zhang wasn't at home, but Gu couldn't help thinking of the dancing of his wife and Zhang, and his jealousy continued.

The wife returned home by herself and didn't talk with Gu. Gu, however, continued to blame his wife. Lin finally took a stool to hit Gu's leg, further angering Gu.

Police allege Gu pressed his wife on the bed and hit her head and neck with his fist. When he stopped, Lin was unconscious. She later died in hospital from cerebral injuries.
