The Chongqing media has made an appeal on behalf of an impoverished student from the rural part of the municipality.

Ni Hongting has been accepted to study at Beijing Normal University this year, but her family is too poor to afford the annual 6,000 yuan (US$739) tuition fee for her schooling.

Ni's family was so needy that she has repeatedly had to have her long hair cut in order to raise funds for her sick mother.
