A 36-year-old man who suffered from meningitis was kept locked in a tiny room for more than 34 years.
The parents of Meng Gaoqin said they had to lock their son into the 5-square-metre space because he suffered serious side effects from his disease.
Meng, for example, would often jump into a deep fishpond in front of their home in Hengxiang County, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
And as Meng's parents had to work in the field all day, there was no time to properly look after him.
As a result, Meng lost his ability to speak. His parents now say they are worried about his future.
