A court in Dalian of Liaoning Province last week ordered a village committee to give compensation of 500 yuan (US$61) to a neighbouring feed lot where animals were scared out of their wits during a ceremony early this year.

Many wild animals living in the farm became scared during the ceremony, as powerful firecrackers went off for more than an hour.

Two wolves and four wild boars had an altercation while 80 badgers died of anoxia as they crowded into a corner to escape from the deafening explosions.
