Ungrateful pet monkey mauls owner

A 75-year-old man surnamed Li regrets having adopted a wounded monkey a year ago in Wuhua County in eastern Guangdong Province, after being seriously injured by the animal early last week.

Li spent a total of 2,500 yuan (US$312.5) on the monkey at a local agricultural bazaar, and then took it to see animal doctors.

But the monkey returned kindness with ingratitude after it recovered. It attacked Li, and doctors had to put more than 20 stitches in Li's left arm and right leg.

Li, who is still in hospital for treatment, said he had paid medical fees more than 8,000 yuan (US$1,000) so far.
