Guides hired for visiting friends

With the approach of the National Day holiday, some companies in Shanghai have witnessed robust business after launching a new service to help clients accompany visiting friends and relatives around the city during the holiday.

Zhang, a white-collar worker in Shanghai, felt himself in an awkward predicament recently when he received calls from friends who wished to visit him during the holiday. Unwilling to give up his plan of having an outing, Zhang decided to hire people to help show his friends around in the city.

According to a company in the industry, at least two people called in every day to order the service, which costs 200 to 300 yuan (US$25-37) a day.
