Peddler wins big in welfare lottery

A fruit peddler won 5 million yuan (US$632,000), the top prize of the latest national welfare lottery sold throughout the country, on Monday in Chongqing.

He had to ask his brother to be a stand-in for him to take the prize for fear of revealing his wealth to others.

He said he would donate part of the money to his hometown in remote Chongqing to help poor school dropouts back to school.
