Students seek fortune as mushroom farmers
(China Daily) Updated: 2006-10-11 17:15
Three university students, including two girls, have moved to an isolated
village in Anhui Province and concentrated their time and energies on
cultivating mushrooms.
The three were inspired to create their own business as mushroom farmers last
year when they underwent a month-long internship in the village. Last May they
rented 0.4 hectares of fields to plant mushrooms with a 120,000-yuan (US$15,180)
loan from the local government.
Currently the mushroom is in a harvest season, and the students predicted
they could win back their investment within this year. Last month they worked
with local mushroom farmers to set up an association with the ambition of
expanding the industry to a grand scale.
