Status: On June 1, the Hunan Provincial Disciplinary Commission detained Li
and began an investigation. On July 20, Li was removed from his post as Party
secretary and from many others.
Zeng Jinchun, secretary of the Chenzhou Disciplinary Commission
Charged with: Severe breach of discipline
Status: The provincial disciplinary commission detained Zeng on September 19
and began an investigation.
Pan Jiasheng, director of the Chenzhou municipal publicity department
Charged with: Receiving bribes totalling more than 10 million yuan (US$1.25
million)
Status: The provincial disciplinary committee detained Pan on August 9 and
began an investigation.
Lei Yuanli : deputy mayor of Chenzhou
Charged with: Receiving bribes totalling 7.21 million yuan (US$900,000) and
embezzlement of about 26.5 million yuan (US$3.25 million) in housing funds.
Status: Arrested on June 30, 2005, and sentenced to the death penalty for
taking bribes on September 5, 2006, with a two-year probation.
June 11: Beijing Vice-Mayor Liu Zhihua, sacked by the Standing Committee of
the Beijing Municipal People's Congress for corruption and dissolute behaviour.
Late June: People's Liberation Army navy Deputy Commander Wang Shouye,
dismissed by the Central Military Commission for economic crimes. He was also
expelled from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on June
29.
August 11: Zhu Junyi, director of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Labour and
Social Security, sacked for taking bribes and siphoning money from social
security funds.
August 24: Qin Yu, director of Baoshan District in Shanghai, sacked and put
under investigation for grave breach of discipline.
August 25: He Minxu, vice-governor of eastern Anhui Province, dismissed and
awaiting trial on charges of taking bribes and engaging in illegal land deals.
August 27: Li Baojin, chief prosecutor of Tianjin, dismissed on charges of
severe breach of discipline.
July though September: Li Dalun, Party secretary of Chenzhou, Hunan Province;
Zeng Jinchun, director-general of the Chenzhou Disciplinary Commission; and Pan
Jiasheng, director of the Chenzhou city government publicity department.
September 25: Chen Liangyu, Party secretary of Shanghai and member of the
Communist Party of China's Politburo, suspended on a variety of charges,
including misuse of social security funds and cronyism.
