Cross-straits economic exchanges irreversable(Xinhua)Updated: 2006-11-29 16:34 A Chinese mainland official said on Wednesday that trade and cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan is irreversible.
"Statistics of the Ministry of Commerce show cross-Strait economic exchanges and cooperation are continuing to move forward. Nobody can change this trend," said Li Weiyi, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
According to statistics of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Department of the commerce ministry, trade volume between the mainland and Taiwan reached 88.03 billion U.S. dollars in the first ten months, up 20.4 percent over the same period last year.
Li said despite obstruction and restrictions imposed by the Taiwan authorities, cross-Strait trade continues to expand.
"It's reflected in mainland statistics as well as statistics released by Taiwan," said Li.
He said the middle and western regions of the mainland are attracting more and more investment from Taiwan. |
