Police issue 30,000 tickets in safety blitz(China Daily)Updated: 2006-12-11 10:25 Macao police issued nearly 30,000 tickets to traffic rule violators in this year's Traffic Safety Month (TSM), which ended last Sunday. The authorities said on Wednesday that 85 per cent of the tickets were for illegal parking, an indication of how serious the problem is in Macao. Police also handled more than 1,900 cases of speeding and issued warnings to 1,200 jaywalkers, including over 100 cases that led to prosecution. The TSM campaign showed there's been a considerable reduction in the number of people speeding since the government installed four permanent radar detection posts at accident black spots earlier this year. Authorities are considering taking further measures to deter dangerous drivers. Macao Daily News |
