1998: The government announces the Central Reclamation Phase III plan to build a Central-Wan Chai Bypass

2001: The government conducts an Environmental Impact Assessment Study on the impact on heritage sites such as the Star Ferry pier, the Queen's Pier and the City Hall.

The Antiques and Monuments Office commissions a survey on historical buildings and structures within the Central Reclamation Phase III project area.

March 13, 2002: At an Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) meeting, members are told that the Central Star Ferry pier and its clock tower have to be demolished because of the reclamation work. Members do not oppose the demolition plan.

November 11, 2006: The Central Star Ferry pier is shifted and the old pier closed.
