The Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Environment in Hubei Province has hired four new staff members who will follow their noses to determine whether environmental protection requirements are met.

The four employees begin in 2007 and will work on samples collected from local factories and production bases, testing them by smell.

The bureau employed the four smell testers on advice from the deputies of the local people's congress after an increased number of air pollution cases were reported this year.
