Motorcycles destroyed in Macao blaze(China Daily)Updated: 2006-12-20 09:09 More than 20 motorcycles parked underneath a pedestrian overpass in Macao were engulfed by fire on Sunday night before fire fighters arrived on the scene. Many residents living in nearby buildings had to be evacuated. The police said an initial investigation found nothing extraordinary in the remains of 19 motorcycles and two bicycles. Seven other motorbikes were damaged to varying degrees by the blaze. Such fires are not uncommon in Macao, where motorcycles are a popular means of transport for locals. Police believe most fires of this nature are started by arsonists usually members of criminal gangs wanting to send a warning to those owing money to loan sharks. No one was hurt in the fire. The police have yet to determine its cause and who might be responsible. Macao Daily News |
