A prisoner serving a sentence in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region sent a thank-you letter to a policewoman, who has been looking after his daughter in Xiangshan of Zhejiang Province for the past eight years.

The man was sentenced to 20 years in jail after he was found guilty of financial fraud in 1998. His wife divorced him, leaving their daughter with his parents.

But his parents fell ill and were unable to financially support his daughter to continue her studies at primary school.

The prisoner sought help from He Licai, a policewoman who had helped him in the past, and she agreed to look after his daughter.
