Thirteen collection stations for out-of-date medicine were set up in Beijing's Xicheng District last Thursday.

It was the first effort to encourage locals to hand in their expired medicine to a legal collection station in a bid to help stop such medicine from being reused.

The collection stations will also be available in other districts and counties in the city.

All out-of-date medicine collected will be destroyed by the local authorities.
