HK fertility treatments fall behind: few doctors

People have to wait three months to receive fertility treatment at the government-sponsored Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK).

Susan Fan, the executive director, said the association has tried to hire four more doctors to alleviate the workload of the 18 currently on staff. But even with higher salary offers, the FPAHK has had no success in the past half-year. There's a marked increase in the number of people seeking fertility treatment because Hongkongers are getting married late.

"It's probably too late if people don't consider having a baby before they have achieved career success and bought flats and cars," Fan said.
