A family living in a Hong Kong luxury apartment pleaded guilty to shoplifting HK$265 ($34) worth of bakery products, even though they had more than HK$10,000 ($1,280) in cash with them.

The family of three visited the Kee Wah Bakery shop in the high-end Two IFC Mall on September 30. The mother, 54, and the daughter, a 24-year-old university graduate, put a pack of mooncakes worth HK$260 ($33) and a HK$5.5 (70 cents) bun into a bag without paying and handed them to the father, waiting outside. The scene was witnessed by a police officer patrolling the mall.

Their lawyer said the theft was out of character and a "spur-of-the-moment" thing.
