Misaddressed envelopes cause woes in Hong Kong

Among the 3.7 million letters handled by Hong Kong Post daily, more than 6,000 have to be delayed or cannot be delivered at all because of mistakes on the addresses.

Most of the mistakes were made by local senders. A common error is the omission of the district names, which causes confusion as many places across Hong Kong share the same names. "For example, five buildings are called Winner Building in Hong Kong," said Ellen Siu, general manager of mail processing.

But senders who make up street names cause the biggest headache for post office workers. A letter addressed to "Electronic Parts Street" is actually destined to Ap Liu Street, which is known for many shops that sell electronic parts.
