The Golden Pavilion, called "Kinkaku-ji" in Japanese, is one of the most famous architectures in Kyoto. It is a Zen temple originally built in 1397. The entire pavilion, excepting the basement floor, is covered with pure gold leaf, giving the pavilion its name.
