15 years of growing ties

August 24, 1992: China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) establish diplomatic relations.

November 1998:Then ROK president Kim Dae-jung pays a state visit to China, during which he meets then president Jiang Zemin and then premier Zhu Rongji.

October 2000:Then premier Zhu Rongji pays an official visit to the ROK during which he holds formal talks with Kim. Both sides unanimously agree to push Sino-ROK relations to a new high.

July 2003:ROK President Roh Moo-hyun pays a state visit to China.

November 2004:President Hu Jintao meets Roh on the sidelines of the 12th APEC economic leaders' informal meeting in Chile.

November 2005:During Hu's visit to the ROK, he and Roh decide to celebrate 2007 which marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries - as the "China-Korea Exchange Year".

October 10, 2006:Right after the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's nuclear test, Roh comes to Beijing to meet Hu, top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.

November 2006:Hu meets Roh on the sidelines of the 14th APEC economic leaders' informal meeting in Vietnam.

2006:Bilateral trade reaches $130 billion and China emerges as the ROK's largest trading partner.
