HK wholesalers to reduce beer price(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-05-27 16:47 Hong Kong beer consumers may enjoy cheaper beer as wholesalers decided to lower beer prices from next month, though the city's two major supermarket chains said they may not change retail prices of beer immediately, said Hong Kong media Sunday. Hong Kong beer wholesalers union Saturday announced their decision to reduce wholesale prices of about 40 brands of beer next month just 4 hours after Hong Kong financial chief Henry Tang urged liquor wholesalers to reward their benefits from tax deduction to consumers. According to local newspapers, Welcome, one of the supermarket chains in Hong Kong, said the decision is encouraging but they may not change their retail prices until they receive the new detailed price catalogue. Parknshop, the other supermarket chain, said they have already lowered down retail prices of beer since the government reduced the tax on liquors, and therefore further price deduction may not be realized until new wholesale price is announced. |
