The 5th China (Fujian) Technology and Project Fair opened in Fuzhou on June 18. Thousands of technological experts and investors from home and abroad are gathering at the Fuzhou Jinshan Exhibition Center for the next three days to share their latest research findings and technical requirements.

Ho Hau Wah, Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Wang Guangtao, Minster of Construction, and Fujian provincial government leaders, Lu Zhangong and Huang Xiaojing, officially opened the fair. Co-sponsored by the Fujian Government and 10 state ministries, the three-day fair serves as a platform for technological innovation and project collaboration.

According to the organizing committee, there will be 9,100 scientific research findings presented at this year's fair.

Ludovico Iasci is an engineer from an Italian company called Istonio. He participated at TPF last year. "We mainly did some preparation last year. This time we have brought some new technology on medical checkup and machinery, and hope to find some partners in China, " he told China Daily Website.

Located just across the Strait from Taiwan, Fujian is the center for the development of the Economic Zone on the West Coast of the Taiwan Straits. This year, 60 enterprises and 27 universities and scientific institutes from Taiwan will attend the fair. They will present 198 research findings specialising in electronic information, machinery, biotechnology and energy-conservation.

Lin Min-Chuan is an associate professor from Taiwan's Kunshan University. This is his first time at TPF. "Last year, my colleagues came here and promoted some of our research achievements. Some companies have already contacted us interested in cooperation."

He hoped that he could bring opportunities, which can turn technology into productivity back to Taiwan.

As part of the TPF, the Cross-Straits Green Architecture and Energy-saving Construction Expo is held at the same time.

In this exhibition hall, an energy-saving house was the highlight of the event. According to a technical illustrator, this kind of house can save energy on water, electricity and even building materials by 65 percent.

Lien Fu-Hsin, chairman of the board of Taipei Architects Association, was impressed by this house. He said he would exchange ideas on energy-saving construction with architects from the mainland during a seminar.

TPF is not only an event reserved for professionals and academics, it has also provided a stage for some amateurs who are interested in technological invention.

Huang Zongming is a college student in Fuzhou. He worked with his father Huang Qijin to invent a device that can recycle water. They came to TPF to introduce the technology, and hope that someone will invest on their invention. " Saving water is an urgent issue in our country, that is why we are working on this idea," said Huang Zongming.

TPF was first launched in 2003. During the past four years, more than 10,000 advanced research findings have been commercialized through this event. And TPF has become one of the most influential technology fairs in China.
