SHENYANG -- Nine people were killed and 10 others injured when a truck lost control in a busy street in downtown in Benxi City, Liaoning Province in northeast China, sources with the local police said on Thursday.

The deadly accident happened at 4:50 p.m. in front of the hospital on the Wenhua Road, when a speeding truck lost control and collided with six vehicles, before running into the crowd and eventually stopped in a shop.

Local police rushed to the site and the injured have been sent to a local hospital.

Investigators are still trying to find out the causes of the accident.
