A 58-year-old woman in Haikou, Hainan Province, looking for love on the Internet was swindled out of more than 4,000 yuan ($516).

The widow, surnamed Li, made a net friend at an Internet chat-room three months ago. She soon fell in love with her net friend surnamed Gao, who pretended to run a coal mine in Guizhou Province.

After Gao promised to marry her last month, Li sent Gao the money to expand his business.

After flying to Guizhou to meet Gao, Li found she had been conned. No person by that name at the address she was given existed.
