Macao logs 5th dengue fever in 2007

MACAO - Macao has recorded the fifth dengue fever case in 2007, according to a press release issued by the region's Health Bureau (HB) Thursday.

The patient, a 46-year-old female resident living in the city's Taipa Island, returned from a five-day trip to Vietnam and came down with a fever on August 15, said the release.

It added that a string of tests confirmed the diagnosis following her admission into a local hospital.

The HB press release urged all residents to seek immediate medical treatment if symptoms of dengue-fever is developed after returning from holidays abroad.

Macao was hit by its first major reported outbreak of dengue fever in 2001 when 1,418 were affected in the region with a population of 500,000.
