National Grand Theater to hold first test show(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-09-11 16:13 BEIJING - China's futuristic National Grand Theater will carry out its first test show on September 25, the Beijing Times reported on Tuesday.
The first show, which is not open to the public, will be held in the opera house and theater, but not the concert hall, to test the theater's equipment, the paper said. The first formal performance in the theater is scheduled for the end of this year. The egg-shaped "bubble" structure just to the west of Tian'anmen Square is covered with titanium panels and surrounded by water and greenery. Designed by French architect Paul Andreu, the National Grand Theater boasts three gigantic halls - a 2,416-seat opera house, a 2,017-seat concert hall and a 1,040-seat theater - and is destined to become China's top arts performance center. |
