Subject: Proud to be Chinese in the 21st century, China's century
"The label on the government system does not matter. Chinese leaders are not dogmatic and they are not ideologues. They are the wisest and most dedicated statesmen the world has currently.
Under the aegis of the CPC, 'socialism with Chinese characteristics' has been dedicated to improving the lives of all Chinese and in the process lifting China back toward its rightful berth. I believe, within my lifetime, China will one day have the world's largest GDP (in terms of purchasing power)."

Subject: Hu: A real world statesman
"My wife and I have said it many times on the China Daily website: Hu Jintao is a real world statesman and a credit to the Chinese people. It is also a credit to the Party that a leader of this caliber can make it right through the ranks to the top position. I expect we will see great things in the coming years."

Subject: "We will definitely not tolerate Taiwan 'independence'"
"We prefer to say 'Taiwan question' rather than 'Taiwan issue' because 'issue' suggests there is room to negotiate or bargain. 'Question' suggests the nature of the thing is already set and just needs to be settled. As for Taiwan: It is an integral part of China and that is beyond doubt."

Subject: Amazing China
"The two-and-a-half-hour epic speech by President Hu demonstrated the leadership is energized to take China to her next height of glory and new achievements. The oarsman has to steer his boat carefully in order to get his passengers across fast-moving waters and Hu has drawn the grand blueprint for China so we will all get there safely."

"Despite recent comparisons with other countries, China has always been 'great'. It has made rapid progress and soon it will overtake the rest of the world. China has done in one generation what takes other countries many generations to do. So don't compare China to Western countries, compare it to yourself. Progress at your own speed, do what you do, and do it well. That is your success."

"There are many problems that need to be addressed - employment, the income gap, affordable housing, etc - and I hope this congress can map out good solutions."

Subject: Widening gap between the poor and the rich
"I think another headache China has to bear is the widening gap between the rich and poor, the larger the gap, the bigger the social problems. It is at the core of building a harmonious society."
