It will take 16 minutes to travel from Dongzhimen to the airport.

The first train has run on the line as a trial at a top speed of 110 kilometers an hour.

Trains running on normal Chinese railways run at 80 kilometer an hour.

About 70 percent of facilities, including power supply, monitoring, communication and signal, have been installed along the line and the rest will be finished by the end of this year, the report said.

Constructors will test the system before putting the line into operation before the 2008 Olympic Games, the report said.

Four stations will be set up along the 28-kilometer-long line, including Dongzhimen Station and Sanyuanqiao Station in the downtown area.

The system, equipped with wireless communication technologies, can shorten the interval between trains to about five minutes at the first stage and raise their running efficiency, the report said.

A total of 500 million yuan (US$67 million) has been spent to buy 10 trains for the line, the report said.
