China's stock market value shrinks 3.11% in a week(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-12-01 13:57 The combined market value of stocks on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses fell 3.11 percent this past week to 29 trillion yuan, according to statistics from stock exchanges. Market value of the bigger Shanghai stock market reached 24.3 trillion yuan while that of the Shenzhen market came to 4.7 trillion yuan. Market capitalization, or the market value of all companies' outstanding shares, declined 1.68 percent on Friday compared with last Friday to 7.9 trillion yuan, statistics show. By November 30, a total of 1,512 companies with 1,598 stocks were traded on the two bourses. Many Chinese investors experienced a hard time in the past six weeks, during which the Shanghai Composite Index tumbled from 6,092 points to 4,803 points on Wednesday. Chinese share prices were sharply lower on Friday as the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index plunged 2.63 percent following Thursday's strong gains of more than four percent.
