Updated: 2007-12-03 15:17 BEIJING -- Lin Wenyi was reelected chairwoman of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TSL) Central Committee here on Monday. The TSL closed its 8th all-league congress on Monday morning and Lin was reelected during the congress, which opened on November 28. At its 8th all-league congress, the TSL also selected its new league central committee composed of 63 members. Lin was reelected the TSL Central Committee chairwoman and Wang Yifu, Wu Guozhen, Chen Weiwen, Yang Jian and Huang Zhixian were elected vice chairpersons of the TSL Central Committee. Zhang Ning was elected secretary-general and Song Yan was elected deputy secretary-general of the TSL. The 8th all-league congress also passed a congress resolution and a draft amendment to the TSL's Constitution. Lin stressed the TSL will further promote development of cross-Straits relations, stick to the road of peaceful development and make new contribution to the realization of peaceful reunification of the motherland. The TSL and its branches at various levels will adhere to the principle of "peaceful reunification and one country, two systems", the eight-point proposal for developing the relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits and the four-point guideline on the relations across the Taiwan Straits, she said. The TSL would work hard to push economic and personnel exchanges across the Taiwan Straits, and firmly oppose the secessionist activities aimed at "Taiwan independence," she said. As one of the eight democratic parties of the country, the TSL was founded in Hong Kong on November 12, 1947 by a number of Taiwan personages engaged in patriotic campaigns after the February 28 Uprising of the Taiwan people that year. The TSL is composed of people from Taiwan. The TSL now has branches in 13 provinces and municipalities, with a membership of over 2,100. |
