BEIJING -- Chinese shares ended the morning session by sinking more than five percent on Monday, as regional markets all registered losses after the Wall Street lost ground last Friday after two days of rally.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, lost 260.88, or 5.48 percent, to finish the morning session at a fresh low of 4500.81.

Heavyweights and blue chips had led the slump.

The smaller Shenzhen market also reported a heavy loss of 5.54 percent, or 957.88 points, to close at 16,336.12 points.
