HANGZHOU -- Eleven people have been killed in a restaurant fire in east China's Zhejiang Province early Friday, local government sources said.

The fire broke out at 1:50 a.m. Friday at the Chengshuai Restaurant in Yiting Town, Yiwu City.

Twenty-three people were rescued by fire fighters. Fifteen of them were sent to hospitals, but 11 died despite doctors' efforts to save them.

The fire was put out in an hour. Rescue efforts have ended.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
