Fuzhou -- A farmer was sentenced to death on Tuesday in the southeastern province of Fujian for killing six people, including a 2-year-old boy.

Chen Jinchun, 38, a farmer from Cangshan District, Fuzhou City, received his sentence at Nanping Intermediate People's Court.

He was convicted of slaying two farmers in his village in 2000, after he quarreled with them when building a house, according to the court.

Chen escaped to Nanping City, where he was involved in altercations with Xu Youxing and Xu Youchuan in Shangshanfang Village in August 2007. He fatally stabbed Xu Youxing's mother, wife, daughter and 2-year-son. He also severely injured Xu's daughter, the court said.

The Ministry of Public Security issued a Class A warrant for Chen in August 2007 and mobilized more than 10,000 police and villagers to search for him. He was caught on August 31 as he was trying to flee from a hill in Nanping City.
