Coins to be issued to mark 20th anniversary of Hainan SEZ

BEIJING -- The People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, will issue a set of gold and silver coins on April 8 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Hainan special economic zone (SEZ) in southern China.

The issuance comprises 10,000 gold coins, with a face value of 100 yuan (14.3 US dollars) each, and 20,000 silver coins, with a face value of 10 yuan each.

The coins were produced by Shenzhen Guobao Mint and will be distributed by China Gold Coin Inc.

Founded in 1988, Hainan is one of the five SEZs established since 1980. The others are Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou and Xiamen, all in southern China.
