BEIJING  -- Lhasa government will rebuild Lhasa No.2 Second Middle School which was destroyed in the riot on March 14.

The No. 2 middle school was the most damaged school during the riot and the local government will invest 38.5 million yuan (US$5.5 million) to build a new campus, said Song Yiwu, deputy mayor of Lhasa.

The deputy headmaster of the middle school, Feng Xingjuan, received 200,000 yuan from Beirun Group, a Chinese company based in Beijing, through China Children and Teenagers' Fund on Sunday.

"The mobsters may have burnt our school, but not the learning will of our students nor the care of society," said Feng Xinjuan.

"Our school is next to the Ramogia Monastery. The mob set the two teaching buildings on fire," Feng said.

Six hundred students lost their classrooms, Feng said. No one was hurt in the arson.

The school reopened on March 17, however students currently have classes in cold laboratories and some in the primary school.
