SHANGHAI  -- Three gardeners were killed and five injured in Shanghai Tuesday as containers fell from a lorry on a overpass, police said.

The accident occurred at 2:40 p.m. at a crossing in Baoshan district. The lorry's brake malfunctioned and it hit an anti-collision wall, an official with the Shanghai Public Security Bureau said on Tuesday evening.

The driver, surnamed Liu, was from Fuyang city, Anhui Province. The five injured workers were taken to hospital and are out of danger, the official said.
