BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Taitung city in southeastern Taiwan at 2:27 a.m., Wednesday, China Earthquake Networks Center said.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 22.6 degrees north latitude and 121.0 degrees east longitude, the center said.
